Angorichina Cactus Eradication Working Bee (Year 12)
Location / Description:
Angorichina Station – approx. 9 Km East of Blinman, on Wirrealpa / Arkaroola Rd
Meeting Place: TBA
Trip Standard: Easy to station . . . varies on Site
(NOTE : Landholder preference is we use a property vehicle provided for the work, but occasionally some use of own vehicle may still be required ?)
Trip Distance: Approx 500Km from Adelaide
Itinerary: Arrive afternoon Mon 19th, set up, then discuss / survey work sites with Owner
- Work identified areas across next 4 / 5 days – Sourcing & distributing specific Cochineal for treatment of Wheel, Prickly Pear & Devils Ropes Cacti. and Herbicide treatment of some isolated Wheel Cactus infestations
Subject to weather conditions : If Hot, may involve early start / early finish.
NOTE : Be aware that the Work is often in remote property locations and can be physically demanding in some terrain / conditions.
- Depart following Sat or Sun as preferred
Fuel : Standard Tank OK, maybe refuel in Pt Augusta / Hawker ?
Pets: None
Camping: Depending on availability, this year we will use either the Shearers Quarters or Workers Hut (both have Kitchen / Shower / Toilet facilities) . . . however BYO bedding etc.
Food: BYO All
Vehicles: 4WD Good mechanical condition. Standard recovery gear, tow points front and rear
Equipment:
Personal : Working Gloves (suggest 2 Pairs), Hat and Sturdy Footware, Drinking Water, Sun Protection (hat, long sleeves, long pants, sunscreen & sun glasses etc), “Hi-Vis” Vest recommended & Preferable !
Ideally ALSO bring your Own Hand Held UHF Radio if you have one.
Tools : Some supplied but bringing your Own pair of BBQ Tongs, or similar, (for handling Cacti pads) is recommended. Also a Sharp knife can be very useful.
Communication: Normally UHF 17
Participants : Min 2 / Max 4 People . . (Owner directive / preference around issues of transport / property access and team safety / on-site management)

This drive will take us to Mannum via back roads through some very scenic hills and creek crossings along mostly dirt roads. The trip to Mannum from our meeting point at Littlehampton will take us approximately 3 hrs so you will gather this is not a direct route to Mannum. We will have lunch at Mannum and return a different (shorter) route, again through back roads returning us to the Freeway just near Littlehampton. ...
