Social Meeting

DATE: 4th Tuesday of each month (except December)

TIME: Meals can be ordered from the bar 5.30 to 8.00pm 

MEETING: commences at 7:15pm in the Sturt Pea Room. 

LOCATION: West Adelaide Football Club

FORMAT:

Meeting to update members on a number of opportunities and new initiatives the club is exploring. Plus an ideal chance to socialise with fellow members.

GUEST SPEAKER

David Furness is a mechanical engineer (BE mech and MBA, University of Adelaide), who started work in 1973 at Chrysler which was taken over by Mitsubishi Motor Corporation to become Mitsubishi Motors Aust Ltd (MMAL).

Initially, he obtained experience in various sections and ended up in Chassis Engineering working on wheels and tyres and related areas.

The role evolved to include suspension and steering and he worked on the Sigma and several Magna models and their derivatives. There was considerable design and development for local manufacturers involved with the Magna in particular which he was heavily involved in until 2002.

Since then he has been working with AJ Stock a truck body builder where he handles the technical aspects of the business.

David will be covering relevant aspects of his time at MMAL, the Australian motor industry at the time, and will discuss and offer a view of the closure of the car industry in this country.
